Project description and objectives The project launched a series of focused workshops for microfinance practitioners to address their organizational challenges. Experts in Human Resource Management prepared and delivered a four-day workshop in three countries (Egypt, Tunisia, and Jordan) on the means to introduce cutting-edge HR systems and practices in Microfinance.
Expected results The project supported microfinance institutions across the MENA region by providing them a view forward for the continued development of their HR systems, thereby developing internal capacities and reinforcing their operations. 



Name of project Developing a Program Supporting MFIs in Financing Refugees

Project description and objectives In light of the sizeable populations of Syriancs in Jordan and Lebanon, the SANAD TAF initiated a project to study potentials for selected partner microfinance institutions to serve both Syrian refugees and host-country communities affected by the refugee crisis. Feasibility was analyzed with an eye to facilitating the provision of financing, capacity building and other support services, risk-sharing, and other measures to the target populations.
Expected results The project resulted in the development of a strategy to assist select institutions to study, in greater depth, the potential to develop various services for the market studies to analyze different aspects of refugee population’s work 



Name of project Harmonizing Small Enterprise Lending

Project description and objectives The aim of the project is to support a series of affiliated microfinance institutions in developing a policy framework and credit appraisal tools based on best practices in SME lending. This allowed the affiliated institutions to develop a shared approach.
Expected results The project supported the affiliated institutions to unify, to the extent possible, their approach to financing SMEs, thus increasing the potential to benefit from shared knowledge and experience across the network, in the process reinforcing capacities in SME lending across the institutions.

Project description and objectives The workshops provided an overview on good practice corporate governance and asset and liability management for MFIs during the 2014 annual conference of the Sanabel Microfinance Network of Arab Countries. 
Expected results The workshops provided participants the opportunity to increase their exposure to and awareness good Corporate Governance and Asset Liability Management.

Project description and objectives This project finances top-notch international and local trainings to middle and senior management from (potential) partner institutions of the Fund.

Project description and objectives The 2-day training on “Successful financing tools and strategies for MFIs” was organized in coordination with Sanabel, the Microfinance Network for Arab Countries. It was delivered in Arabic language to a group of CFOs and executives of MFIs active in the MENA region, who are already borrowing and/or raising equity, or who have plans to do so in the near future.
Expected results The training provided an overview of investment basics for MFIs, covering the entire investment cycle from the perspective of the investee. Participants acquired new financing tools and techniques that they will be able to apply within their institutions.

Name of project Client Protection Study Tour to Germany

Project description and objectives This regional project (in cooperation with GIZ) enhanced knowledge about client protection with a study tour to Germany for a peer to peer exchange and knowledge sharing. During the tour, participants were introduced to client protection within the German financial sector through visits to agencies involved in the practical application of the topic.
Expected results The project will contribute to a better familiarity with international standards for client protection regulations, as applied in the German financial industry.

Project description and objectives The project conducted an in-depth stock-taking exercise and developed different options for SANAD to offer Islamic Finance product to SANAD’s partner institutions.
Expected results Results include a better understanding of the Islamic MSME finance landscape in the MENA region, and the development of concrete suggestions to offer Islamic Finance products to SANAD’s partner institutions.

Project description and objectives By developing and organizing a workshop (in cooperation with SANABEL and GIZ) on the state of microfinance regulation in Arab countries, this project increased the knowledge of new regulations and laws and sensitized MFIs to their important advocacy role.
Expected results The project helped MFIs gain more knowledge on the impact of positive microfinance regulations and strengthened their lobbying efforts.



Name of project Loan Officer Checklist for SANAD’s Social and Environmental Exclusion List

Project description and objectives This project supported the loan officers of partner institutions in screening activities/businesses of potential clients against SANAD’s Social and Environmental exclusion list by providing them with a check-list based on the Fund’s exclusion list.
Expected results The project is fostering responsible finance practices of partner institutions by avoiding lending to activities that are environmentally or socially harmful.
